Strengthening Security With Microsoft Azure AD, MFA, Intune & Defender For Business

Akita worked with an industry trade body to strengthen its protection with Microsoft security solutions.

In the wake of a security incident, the organisation recognised the need to urgently fortify its IT infrastructure and enhance threat detection.

Through a consultative approach, Akita was able to significantly strengthen its defences and deploy a range of new measures to protect the organisation.

Approach

Based on the initial security incident, we approached cyber security from a variety of angles:

Investigation: Post-security event, a rigorous investigation was conducted to ascertain the cause and extent of the security breach. Analysis and threat intelligence were leveraged to identify the specifics of vulnerabilities in systems and determine appropriate protection.

Cloud Review: As part of the post-breach assessment, a comprehensive review of cloud security infrastructure and security protocols were conducted. Based on the findings, the recommendation was made to implement Microsoft Entra ID identity protection policies to enhance security and ensure compliance such as conditional access policies to enforce multi-factor authentication.

Intune Deployment & Policy Setup: Intune, Microsoft’s cloud-based endpoint security platform, was deployed to streamline policy enforcement and device management. Comprehensive compliance and configuration policies were configured and enforced across the organisation’s endpoints to ensure devices remain compliant.

Microsoft Defender Rollout: Given the prevalence of other Microsoft solutions, Defender for Business was chosen to replace the existing Sophos endpoint protection solution. Defender’s integrated threat detection, response, and remediation capabilities offered enhanced visibility and protection against sophisticated cyber threats.

With all security solutions now within Microsoft 365, any potential security gaps between platforms have been eliminated.

Ongoing Security Maintenance Plan & Training

The measures implemented have strengthened the defence against external threats.

This was coupled with regular user awareness testing and cyber security training to raise awareness and ensure vigilance among staff.

A proactive security maintenance plan has also been established providing regular access to Akita’s cyber security experts. This ensures continuous monitoring, updates and patch management for the Microsoft security setup. Regular security assessments and scanning are also undertaken to ensure resilience against evolving threats.
